"Pay careful attention to yourselves and all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he purchased with his own blood"
-Acts 20:28
WHAT IS AN ELDER?
WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY?
NEXT STEPS
An elder is a servant leader who leads the church community by caring for them, praying for them, teaching the word, and exercising oversight. Like the Great Servant Christ, they sacrifice their time and energy for the good of others.
The biblical qualifications and definition of an elder are found in several places: Acts 20:28; 1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9; 1 Peter 5:1-5

1 Timothy 3 and Titus 2 provide spiritual qualifications that include: being above reproach, having a healthy marriage relationship and family life, relating well to people, demonstrating self-control, able to teach and influence others, sensitive to the spiritual needs of others, not addicted to substances, has a good reputation both inside and outside the church family, demonstrates spiritual maturity, demonstrates commitment and care to the church family and has shown leadership gifting through his current ministry involvement at GNF. He must also be a member of GNF.
